I am running for the Siksika Nation Council because I believe in the strength and potential of our community. Our Nation faces many challenges, but it also holds immense opportunities for growth, healing, and prosperity. I want to serve as a voice for our people, to work hard for positive change, and to help build a future where every member feels valued and supported.
A Deep Connection to Our People and Land
Growing up in the Siksika Nation, I have witnessed firsthand the resilience of our people. Our culture, language, and traditions are the foundation of who we are. I have always felt a strong responsibility to protect and promote these values. This connection drives my desire to serve on the Council, where decisions impact the preservation of our heritage and the well-being of future generations.
Our land is more than just a place to live; it is a source of identity and strength. I want to ensure that our land is cared for and that development respects our traditions and environment. This means supporting sustainable projects that create jobs while honoring our history.
Addressing Community Priorities with Clear Action
The Siksika Nation faces several pressing issues that require focused attention and practical solutions. I want to bring fresh energy and clear plans to the Council to address these priorities:
Housing
Many families in our Nation live in overcrowded or inadequate housing. I will push for increased funding and partnerships to build safe, affordable homes that meet the needs of our growing population.
Education and Youth Programs
Our youth are the future leaders of the Nation. I want to expand educational opportunities, including cultural programs that teach our language and traditions. Supporting youth with mentorship and skills training will help them succeed both within and beyond our community.
Health and Wellness
Access to quality healthcare remains a challenge. I will advocate for improved health services, mental health support, and addiction programs tailored to our community’s needs. Wellness initiatives that combine traditional healing with modern care can make a real difference.
Economic Development
Creating sustainable jobs is key to strengthening our Nation. I will support local businesses, encourage entrepreneurship, and seek partnerships that bring investment while respecting our values.
Listening and Working Together
Leadership is about listening first. I plan to push for regular community meetings and be accessible to hear your concerns and ideas. Collaboration with elders, youth, and all members is essential. Together, we can find solutions that reflect our shared vision.
I also want to build stronger relationships with neighboring communities and government agencies. By working together, we can access more resources and create opportunities that benefit everyone.
Bringing Experience and Commitment
My background includes years of community involvement and leadership roles that have prepared me for this responsibility. I have worked on projects related to education, health, and economic development within the Nation. These experiences taught me how to navigate challenges and build partnerships.
I am committed to transparency and accountability. If elected, I will provide regular updates on Council activities and decisions. Trust is earned through action, and I intend to earn yours every day.
A Vision for the Future
My vision for the Siksika Nation is one where:
Every family has a safe and comfortable home
Our language and culture thrive in schools and daily life
Health services meet the needs of all members
Economic opportunities grow, reducing poverty and dependence
Our land is respected and protected for generations to come
This vision is achievable if we work together with determination and respect.
